ABOUT Changing Faces

When you look at someone with a disfigurement, do you see the scars, facial markings or unusual features and think it must be worst thing that could have happened to them? Or do you see a multi-facetted person with skills, talents and personality capable of living a successful life?

At least 400,000 people in the UK have disfigurements to their face, hands or body. Changing Faces is the national charity providing professional advice, information and support to children and adults together with their families to help people feel more confident about their appearance, to handle staring and intrusive questions, to be accepted at school and treated with fairness and respect in the workplace.

"I learned quickly it was never going to be easy. On one occasion I was shopping with the children. Two ladies came into the shop and in reference to Hannah loudly announced how shameful it was to bring out something like that.

Changing Faces was a turning point for us all. We met other parents who had children with different conditions but similar feelings and experiences. We had the opportunity to share these and get help in how to take control of difficult situations.

Changing Faces has always been a beacon of light. The staff are always ready to listen, always ready to help me think things through, to point me in the right direction. They have become my friends and I hope one day will be Hannah's too. It is imperative for their work to continue."
Allison, Mum of Hannah.

Please help Changing Faces to continue its pioneering work of supporting people who have disfigurements and campaigning tirelessly to change society's attitudes towards disfigurement. Together, we can all face disfigurement with confidence.
